Our Lesco HP48" cannot retain a charge. We have gone through 3 new batteries in 3 months. It will not start in the mornings or after long stays on the trailer between jobs, but can be started with jumper cables. Someone told me this is the regulator. Does this sound true to you? Could it be anything else? Is a new regulator difficult to put on? Thanks in advancefor you help.

I had a grasshopper a couple of years ago that suffered the same symptoms as you are describing. I put on a new regulator and it was cured. On the grasshopper it was a piece of cake to install, on the kawasaki it may be an internal regulator and not quite so easy to fix. thanks, Lynn

Grass roots, What engine do you have?

Sounds like the regulator, or a weak amp-stator. I know i had to replace a stator in my bass boat due to it being weak.and it was running down my starter battery. Marks Mowing Service

Its a Kawasaki 19HP. Regulator is underneath the mower and easy reach.

On our Kawasaki 19, I think that the regulator is on the side of the shroud, you may be seeing the solenoid.
