Sorry for the continuous questions on Walker prices but you guys are my best source.
1997 20 hp ghs - 9.5 bushel catcher - 700
hours. Dealer purchased back from individual he sold it to after person got out of the business. $6800. Dealer maintained. Is this a fair price ?
I'm trying to determine if a 1999 16hp ghs with 136 hours for $7000 is a better deal than the above 1997 20hp with 700 hours, $6800. Both are dealer maintained. I understand the 20hp twin is alot more machine and can handle more implements than the 16.
Edited by: turfer

The 1997 is a good price if its a 48" deck. I would not buy a 9.5 bushel catcher because its too heavy when full of green grass. I belive the 16 HP unit comes with a 36" deck and is considered a home owner unit.If you can: demo a Hustler 48" short cut, upper cut modle with a bac vac unit.I am impressed with some of the features on this unit compared to a Walker.

The 20 hp sounds high to me. I paid $8,500 for a new one last year with about $350 of extra bells and whistles. I would at least expect a discount of $5/running hour off new machine. This would give a total of $5,000 to $5,500.
I have two 16 hp and they are ok except in the early spring when I scalp zoysia lawns. The 20 hp engine is much better. The oil pump and the OHV make it much superior. I haven't had that great of luck with the 16hp engines. Something serious always seems to break at 700-900 hours. One thing to remember is the the hour meter on the 16hp only reads when blades are turning and 20hp hour meter reads any time the engine is running.

I have seen the blue book for mowers and it states that my 98 Walker GHS 42" is worth about 5200 for trade to dealer. Its based on condition and hours I guess so it can be higher or lower. I'm selling mine outright for 6200. w/600+ hours on it.

ED how do you expect to get $6.2k for a used
42" walker when you can buy a brand new toro
ZTR with a 62" deck for that price?

I don't expect to get that, I AM getting that price. My dealer set me up with the guy and when my new one comes in next week I will give the 98 to the dealer and get my 2000 26Hp EFI Walker. On top of that since its run as a trade thru the dealer I dont pay tax on the 6200. Ya gotta be a salesman and have the right thing to sell.
