workers comp general liability

i am hoping i can get some help i am co owner of a lco in ma.we have been in business for almost two years. iwas wondering what people in my area are paying for workers comp insurance our premium is around 6000.we only have 4 people working for us now.will it be cheaper if we start to 1099 any new hires for this coming season. also are general liabilty is 3000 a year do these prices seam high,any help will be great thanks. :help:

I am not as large as you, but your numbers seem a little high. I know nothing about WCI but i do know some about general liab. Your premiums are reflected on "take home pay" but i don't know how your company is set up, that makes a difference. take away a "0" from your's and that is how much my GLI is. My commercial vehicle, inland marine and GLI is $1995/yr. But, I have no employees! Hope this helped

There is NO suck thing as 1099ing a new hire. They are either an employee OR a subcontractor with their own tools, own equipment, own insurance, own vehicles, etc. etc. If you want to run up a red flag and are looking to get an IRS audit, sending 1099s to employees is about the quickest way you can. Period

Secondly, WC rates are based upon what type of business or SIC code you are in. "Landscaping" here in NJ is around $11 per $100 of payroll whereas "lawn mowing" is only are $3.30 per 100.

Do yourself a favor and talk with you insurance agent or broker to find out where your business falls...
