View Full Version : Changing my Business Name, Opinions?

GrassRoots Lawn Care

My brother and I are partners in GrassRoots Lawn Care. Next month we will be splitting the Biz. He will retain the name and the Corp. I have a few ideas floating around in my head for a name for my new Biz.

I want to sound professional to attract commercial accounts so nothing like "Mike's Lawn Care". I also read through all of the prior posts concerning this and some guys seem to think that ABC Lanscaping is better than ABC Lawn Care, as most customers would be willing to pay more to a Landscape Co. vs. a Lawn Care Co. I'm interested in your opinions on this. Anyway here are a few...

Infinity Lawn Care.
Liberty Lawn Care.
Cornerstone Lawn & Landscapes.
Advantage Lawn Care.
Diversified Lawn & Landscapes.
Diversified Ground Maintenance.
Common Ground Lawn & Landscapes.
Southern Landscapes.
EcoScape Lawn Care.

Any and all opinions appreciated.

How about your full name. Example: "John Doe Lanscaping" or or "John Doe Lawn Care".It is unique only to you. You don't have to worry about anyone else using it. Look at the time you will save not having to think up a "cute and catchy name. You asked for my opnion.

How about a name that says would you do?
like "On time lawncare" "Your on time landscaper"

"We love mowing lawns" "we install landscapes"

just some examples, a name that says what you do is different and powerful. you alao need a tag, like Coke is the real ______, when it _______ positivly has to be there over_______.

if you can fill in the blanks than the power of marketing is at work.

Do you offer landscaping as a service? That would be better if you did,or if you plan to in the future.

GrassRoots Lawn Care, go to http://www.lawnservicing.com and scroll down the page to where you see a subtitle "Starting Out". It's just below a little neon green area. Then click on "Starting Out" and then when that page comes up go to "It's All In A Name (naming your business)" click on that and there is a little paragraph on naming your business. It's got a couple good points.

I was going to post again, but I didn't want to start an arguement. There's enough of that here already.

Most people start calling in the yellow pages with the A's. Wish I had a diiferent name myself.

If I had thought about it when I named my own biz, I'd have picked a name beginning with a letter as close to A as I could. If there are 10 service co's where you are, it won't make any real difference, but in the Va Beach area, there are a lot. Being closer to the head of the list in the Yellow Pages can get a lot of calls. Other than that I'd go with a short name. BTW, I'd check with the local government. You may be required to register the name if it is not your own name, and if that's the case, you need to see if anyone else is already using it in your sity/state, etc. Let us know what you pick and why.

I like "Southern".

But you should consider a name ending with "Landscape Services" or "Landscape Industries" rather than "landscaping" or "lawn care". I think that would sound much more professional.

To me, "lawn care" is very limiting. And if you ever want to do more than just "lawn care" you'll have to change your name.
Whereas "landscaping is a little misleading as it implies that you do mostly landscaping, which you don't at this point.

But the variations I suggested above imply that you do a wide variety of things.

I did the same thing when starting out, Reed Lawn & Landscape, now is Rochester Landscape Management, sounds like a larger bus. nice when doing calls on new cutomers, and those that don't know your co. I will be incorporating soon, posibbly also breaking of snowplowing bus, to a serperate corp. also, I still have to do the research(insurance, lawyer, accountant). My advise choose a name you feel comfortable with, but that you feel you can grow into, as well as consider if you have employees I think they may feel more pride in a co. name than Joe Blows Landscaping. Thats my thoughts.

I like the sound of Advantage or Integrity (or even Infinity) myself...
