Does anyone use a ford f150 with the 4.2 liter to pull anything? I was wondering if they use the same transmissions as the trucks with the bigger engines?

I just bought three F-150s (98, 00 & 01) for my crews. All automatic. All are V6 and I think the V6 only comes in one size...I guess it's 4.2 liter.

Man oh man does that thing tow a trailer. For the last two years I've been using my Nissan 3.3L V6 to tow my trailer. But when I get in the F-150 with the trailer, I don't even realize I'm towing. It's amazing.

I had to put a new Japser tranny in the 2000. So far, it's been great. Very pleased with the Jasper and their warranty.

All my trailers are single axle 6X10's.

I use a 1994 F-150 with a 300 6 cyclinder, automatic. It's been a great truck and pulls just fine. 180.000 miles and still going strong.

96 F150 116,000 miles & goin strong.4.9 Litre straight 6, 5 spd manual trans. Tow a 6.5x10 trailer w/walker, 36" belt, 21" & other handheld stuff. No probs. i can feel the extra drag but no probs pullen it.

2002 F-150 tows 6-6.5k and never had any trouble with the truck except brakes. the tranny and engine are over loaded daily and still never had any problems with either.
The truck has a little over 60k miles on it.

DFW you were probably told that the Jasper comes with a 3 year 75,000 mile warranty.
You might want to check into that warranty though because as of a little over a year ago Jasper only had 2 year 24,000 mile warranties on commercial vehicles.

Just something to check into before you buy another Jasper trans. One other note is that Ford Reman transmissions come with a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty wether it is commercial or not.

My dad has a 2001 F-150 with a 4.2 V6. I've used it a couple times to pull my trailer and I think it handles it almost as well as the 351 V8 in my F-250. I've also seen coulpe guys get nearly 200,000 on those 4.2 V6s with very few problems.

If you are looking at a 99 then you need to have the timing cover gasket checked, if not you will have problems down the road, as the 97-01 4.2's had problems with that gasket causing coolant to get in the oil and burn up the engine. It is however, covered by a recall from Ford, if you have one that is in the year range they list, they will replace the gasket, on them.

I used a '98 F-150 4.2 auto this past summer while I was having my truck serviced, and that truck pulled my 5x8 pretty good, but it knew when it was pulling a hill. I had one rider in the bed and 2 riders on the trailer, and if you don't have the heavy springs in the back, you'll be dragging pavement. The one rider in the bed made the truck squat somewhat. Add-a-leafs are a good idea for 4.2L F-150's to beef up their payload. It got pretty good mileage though, I saw about 20mpg empty with the 4.2 loaner.

i have a 95 F150. but it has a 351 5.8 it sux down some gas. LOL
