View Full Version : Used Grasshopper - 725 with 200 hrs- PRICE??

Newbie Post - I have a neighbor advertising this:

2001- 725 grasshopper zero turn radius lawnmower
25 hp kubota water cooled engine 72" mower deck
commerical grade lawn mower good condition
$6250.00 obo.

Is this a good price??

What should I look at to evaluate it??

It started fine and I drove it around and seemed pretty tight. The deck was a little knicked up but seemed to run ok...

Any advice appreciated!!

That actually seems cheap! In my area, a used one isn't much less than a new one!

That sounds like a good price to me.

With only 200 hours, it should be in very good condition. I would guess that even $7000 would be a good asking price. Most likely it has the G2 transmission. Original cost was probably in the $10,500 - $11,000 range. Check the tires, they should have at least 50% tread with that amount of hours.

It is a g2 and saw the stickers. The tires look decent but the deck is pretty worn, The hour meter is not easy to rig, is it??

Decisions, decisions...

It may not be the original deck. If the deck is that worn you can just get another deck at the price of this unit! Oh, and hour meters usually either work or they don't.

The hour meter is very easy to rig,has the unit have a new style deck flip up.

The Deck is an old style with a manual jack on it?? Is this original?? Can't really tell

I know the new 72 decks don't flip up.

Get the serial numbers from the deck & tractor. Call Grasshopper and they can verify the year that they were made. Also. PLM-1 is right, 72"ers don't flip up.

I am a Grasshopper dealer. That price is pretty fair. However, the 25hp Kubota is really underpowered for the 72" deck, unless you are mowing in light-average conditions. If you do a lot of heavy mowing, you will not be happy with it's performance.

Can you post a couple of pictures of it? Front, back, sides, closeup of the engine etc..

Front Picture (hope it works) - Middle Panel Replaced Before Sale. Meter appear to not be working (or it didn't move when another gentleman drove it around)

This is purely my opinion based on the pics you posted.

I believe that the 200 hours should have a 1 in front of it as in 1200 hours. It has also spent a lot of time outside sitting in the sun. It has been abused a little bit. The right front roller took a fairly severe hit that was so hard that it wrinkled the deck at that point. I can only see a little bit of one of the front casters but they look to be fairly filthy. When most people clean a mower they usually skip the front casters because you really need to remove them to get them clean and the front casters usually take a while to get really dirty and that appears to be the case here. The Grasshopper sticker on the fender is in an advanced stage of wearing off and I don't think it's from repeated cleanings.

If it were me I would only offer him around $3500 to $4000, maybe less if I actually saw the mower.

Richard - Thanks so much for that opinion...I tend to agree

After looking at the pictures and the mower once again, I think I would save my money and look elsewhere. If anybody wants it and is in my area, the mower is located just west of Linwood Ks or email me at 4jayhawks@gmail.com (don't want to turn this into a for sale ad..)
for a contact number

Richard is right on with his assessment. It has got to have several hundred hrs. more than the hour meter shows. Now that I have seen the photos, I would say $3500.00 is more like it. Again, that deck is too big to be running with that tractor unit for good performance.
