When the topic of applying pre m's comes up the timing of the application refers to ground temperature. How do you measure this?

Measure soil temperature using a probe themometer at 4" depth at daybreak.

i don't know if it was B.S. , someone told me too watch the ocean temp. spring and summer are all most similar temps. :confused:

I don't know about that one... News to me. In my understanding ground temp is important because crab grass and other weeds do not begin to germinate until the soil reaches a certain temp, like 55 degrees.

I use a food thermometer and put tape on it at the 2 Inch mark and Check the soil in my yard at the same time every couple of days in the spring. Also check it in the same place...Same exposure.

I think that most Lesco stores have current soil temps posted.

That's my understanding as well, around 50 or 55 degrees...same rule of thumb for new seeding.
