Seems to me your newspaper ad folks should be happy to help you out. Have they told you they wouldn't?

houston, as the others have mentioned, most newspapers (all) should offer some form of free ad design service. you're paying for the ad, so you might as well get what you can out of them if it's not something you're comfortable doing.

there is no single answer for that and it may be really cheap, really expensive, or somewhere in the middle. there are many variables that dictate the price you have: circulation, demographics, prominence, ad type and size, etc.

Before you advertise flower planting and sod installation, you might want to read this, unless you've already passed the state test.......
http://www.contractors-license.org/la/Louisiana.htm
If you haven't taken the test,I'd highly recommend you refrain from advertising those services. You'll be one of the first to get a call from the state inspector, after he sees the ad.
Yea that is expensive.
Keep classifieds simple and I always include good words... like professional or quality or affordable. Something like that.
I just put a new classified in yesterday and it goes something like...
AEW Lawncare
Complete professional service with affordable prices
free quotes ***-****

Yes, you should shorten it and spell it correctly. That's expensive, compared to here, but then, you have a lot of words, way too many. You're likely paying by the word, or by the line.
Drop the senior discount.
Just my opinion.
Try this.

i agree the less you put on it but be specific the cheaper it is...btw did you get my note Houstons ..yard sign wise?
you're basing that on...?
I am only basing that on my area and the four newspapers I have contacted. That is over twice as much as I pay in my area...Thats all.

houston, people could weigh in on whether those run rates are expensive if you would list the paper's circulation, city, distribution coverage, type of ad (display, classified/service directory), and whether it's a mainstream, city paper or a suburban paper.

Ah, baloney. He didn't give any detail on the newspaper, but you want us to? He asked,
30 days is $369.00; 14 days is $264.60; 7 days is $147.70 & 3 days is
$70.20. is this to muuch? :dizzy:
.......
You could probably get an ad in the Neww Yawk Times for less than that, if you cut down on the words.

"baloney"? which part of the following confuses you? i'm asking him to tell us more about the paper and ad AND THEN people could offer an opinion as to whether those costs are too high based upon comparable factors. my bad... it's much easier to lob subjective thoughts such as "that's too expensive" based on zero detail. overwhelmingly helpful...

in looking at The Advocate's daily circulation of 106k weekdays, 109k saturdays, and 129k sundays, depending upon ad location, i don't think 30 days is expensive, but the wildcard is the ad location and size. i'll assume, based upon circ that it's a classified or service directory ad. either way, for 3.07 million issues with your ad, i think that's not too bad.
but compared to the Podunk Times, i'll agree that it's high.

Oh, OK. I thought you wanted US, the replyers, to give stats about our area newspapers, when he, Houston, had not given us any. I was wrong, and I stand corrected.
I still think 30 days for $369.00 is too much. His ad, in it's original version, is too wordy. Less is more. I would shorten it even more than I did in my original reply.
Wow! I just checked out the ads in your paper, there are 28 lawn mowing ads, such things as, "**'s Lawn Service. Comm/ Resid. Cut, Edge & Blow. $15 & up. Call ***-****" and
"**** LAWN SRVS $25 and up. Free estimates. Insured. Call***-****"

Houston, you really want to look into this aspect of your ad. Nick, you brought up a good point. However here in Louisiana you need a Horticulturist or Landscape Contractor's License versus a building contractor license. The test for either of these licenses would be more focused on our industry. Try using this link http://www.asla.org/Members/LALAW.html The removal of this wording would also shorten your add and reduce the cost.

I pay $154 for a 2.5" x 3.5" ad that runs for one month every day. The longer you let your ad run the cheaper it will be b/c they don't have to mess w/ changing it.
