It is in Houston, Texas and had small yellow flowers prior to becoming this. I think it is wild strawberry but sure could use some help deciding so I can treat it.

Every reference I have on wild strawberries shows white flowers and this has yellow flowers. Can you comment?

The one you have there looks like Fragaria vesca, from the family Rosaceae. It is a type of wild strawberry. The other common one is Fragaria virginiana. It is usually employed as a groundcover because the fruit is so minute.-Garth
P.S If you think the yellow flowers are cool there is one called Fragaria X ananassi that has flowers that are hot pink with yellow centres. Very nice contrast. Be careful about handling them though as some people will have an allergic reaction to the foliage( like azaleas).
