Just got my mail today and inside my newspaper box was a flyer for a local landscaping company. As i drove down my street which only consists of 14 houses i noticed everyone got one. If this landscaper would of done his research before wasting his time and money going down my street he would have relized that not only am i a landscaper, but the neighbor behind me and one at the beginning of my street is one as well. Im sure it didnt cost that much money for those 14 fliers but when you look at it on a larger scale that company is just throwing money out the window trying to get customers it will never get. There are certain places in my town or surrounding area that i know other companies have had for years and theres no way i could ever get them. I personally have always gone by word of mouth, recommendations, and ads in the local newspapers. Just thought I'd share my beginning of mowing season with you guys.

How much "research" would you do to save 5 cents?

Is there a "Local Landscapers and Where They Live At" guidebook for your area? The guy might have paid someone else to put them out for him.

Nowadays there is 1-10 landscapers in every neighborhood. I still manage to get works in neighborhoods I do not live in :)

And furthermore, who said that doctor was allowed to see a doctor?

I always get 3-4 calls a year from the big green guys wanting me to use them to fert my lawn. I give the last guy credit, he tried a few different angles even after I told him I was in the biz. He told me he would save me time of having to mess with my own yard. Good saleman, they start first app next week

How is he supposed to know landscapers live there? It's all fair game to me.

I have to agree, he is just marketing indirectly at your potential customers

I had a guy tell me I could save money on Fert. I told he he was crazy I sill get fert cheaper than he willing to sell me.

I get other LCO's flyers in my mailbox as well as solicitation for fert. I actually take each flyer and file it. I like to see the prices and claims they make. Heck some of them even say they can apply fert and spray when they aren't licensed.
Its good to have reference material.
On the same note, I put flyers in all paper holders. I don't discriminate and I do make enough money to afford to let everyone know who I am and what I do. I welcome the same.

classic post.

someone's gotta take care of my neighbors that, as a course of business, i will not touch with a ten foot pole. and i welcome any and all competitive ads to show up at my house. nice, easy way to find out their latest strategies.

Just because someone is your neighbor doesn't make them obligated to use your service.

I never push my neighbors into feeling like they owe it to me to use our company for their maintenance as apposed to another company.

In fact I have a neighbor 3 doors down from me that uses another company that she started using years before I was in the business and i've never pressured her to change.

I also service several homes on the same street where I know another maintenance provider lives.

I have to pass 4 other banks before I get to my bank, should the bank closest to me feel they are getting riped off because I'm not using them to do my banking? Should the other banks not market to me because they know I should be loyal to the bank closest to me?

Bottom line is people have the right to use whoever they want to provide them service work no matter what there location proximity is to the provider.

Sorry about that and if you could would you please round them up from your neighbors and hold them for me till I get a chance to swing by and pick them up so I can redistribute them??
