The steering was one of the main reasons why I chose the Scag Cheetah over the Ferris. It took me less than 10 minutes on the Ferris to tell the Ferris dealer I had made my choice and it wasn't his mower. He was really shocked and started on all the usual lines about how smooth the Ferris was.

The real fact is that no ZTR is really smooth on bumpy ground. I have had gophers and other ground burrowing animals on my land. Trying to run the Cheetah flat out on that section of property is very, very jarring. No way I could ever run it in high gear at speed.

The Scag's steering levers seem much better damped than the Ferris. I also feel more comfortable in the high back seat on the Scag. It just fit me better. I think the Cheetah is closer to the Ferris 3100 than it is to the 2000. Whatever you get, spend a little time adjusting the steering to make sure it runs straight at full tilt.

      Just my opinion.

      Hello,

I saw your post on looking at a Scag Cheetah vs. Ferris IS2000z. I currently own a Kubota ZTR with a suspension seat which I really like, but I have a terribly bumpy back yard and really take a beating on the Kubota when I run flat out. I demo'd a Ferris 2100z and while I like the suspension part of the mower, the steering was terribly sloppy compared to my Kubota, so much so that I really wasn't interested in the mower. The Ferris reminded me of driving an older american pick-up truck where you could actually turn the steering wheel a little left and right and never actually turn the truck at all.

Just trying to avoid wasting mine and the dealers time with a demo if the Scag is going to handle like the Ferris did.

It looks like you chose the Scag. How is the steering comparison?

      Thanks
