We had a tamping blade for our VP-12 plow that we never used.
I always hand tamped backfill with the back end of a sharpshooter. We only open trenched on 2" and bigger pipe, and a lot of this was done before final grade was set, and trenched with this:
So it was no big deal to just spin it around and backfill one side of the trench with the blade, compact the line with the tire, and then mound the other side up a bit.
