May I recommend also engraving your name or company name in a concealed spot on the equipment for future ID. On most small equipment it only takes a few minutes to remove the manufacturer's serial number.
I recovered a stolen Stihl FS90 last summer from a local pawnshop. When I approached the pawnshop owner he was all smug about how he doesn't receive and sell stolen equipment. (Of course the serial number had been removed).
The shiteating grin on his face disappeared when I removed the forward handle and revealed my company name engraved in the shaft beneath.
The look on his face was almost worth all the hassle...ROFLMAO
