There is no changing gears. On my ferris, I push down on my thumb control to go forward, push deeper to go faster, lift on the thumb control to go backwards. All without taking my hands off the bars at all. Add in the independent side to side brakes and I can pivot turn.

On a Dual Hydro, I can push down with 1 thumb and pull up on the other to spin in place "zero turn"
