Our bins use railway ties as the posts and 2" x 8" rough lumber for the sides. They hold up well enough, we replace a few boards each year due to damage though. The bad part is the backs of the bins. The aggregate is heavy, and with the added pressure of a loader going in and scooping out the product, it puts a lot of strain on the back of the bin. We use our backhoe every few years to straighten the posts, and we have run a cable from the front to the back for added support. The picture below is a little blurry, but you get the idea.
