Thanks for the responses so far. They've been very helpful. Although the push rod doesn't look bent in any sort of way, I'll get another.
I'm going to have to take the head off. My feeling, so far, is that the exhaust valve is stuck. I'm extremely curious to know why and if there's an easy fix.
