Your deck should be approximately 1/4" lower in the front than in the back. You will want to make sure that you are at that setting, if you aren't, that can affact the cut quality and the striping ability.

You are also going to have to consider the grasses you are cutting. Warm season grasses from the south don't typically like to stripe that well. Cool season grasses of the north are relatively easy to stripe even without a striping kit.
