I'm the opposite. I hate voice mail. I takes me more time to check voice mail then it takes me to call. 9 out 10 voicemails I would have to call the customer back any way. So I'm doing double work just for a call.
I find with emails customer don't expect to get an email right back. I do email at 7am and just before I go home I'll read to answer the next morning
