Whenever I've Got a long run of pieces that are the same width then I use a pruning saw for tree work.
Basically I take the saw and roughly measure the width of the section with it and use a visual mark on the saw. Then I just go to a rolled up piece of sod, measure the width I need, and then cut it with the pruning saw. Then I take it where I need to and unroll it into place.
Basically it's like making homemade noodles out of dough.
