A need for a shade tree generally means that there is a desire to sit under it. Some of the trees above are not very conducive to sitting under for shade. There are other things to consider as well - insects, either flying around or dropping down, surface roots that can affect the seating area, compaction of roots caused by the sitting area, and hardscape considerations.

Every site has some very specific situations that will affect your selection. Every client has their own specific issues that affect it equally. The time frame that you have to develop this shade and for what size area are very big consideration, too.
