My 2 strokes: I try to go easy on them upon cold start up and let idle down after hard use. I use Opti-2 oil.

On 4 strokes far less concerned about shut down hot spots. Upon initial start up yes I go easy on them when cold most of the time. For example Toro Timemaster goes right to.full throttle upon.start.up. I use synthetic oil multi grade. Castrol syntec 0w-30 on that unit since it's stout oil flows.quickly. And has a cult following.for.use.in.German cars. Also use this exclusively in my 4 stroke snow.throwers.

Oil will.always lube.up parts.better.when.warm and flowing.
