Well....you're not going to like this...but nobody gave me the correct answer....
The snapring didn't fail...it was NEVER INSTALLED....
I searched every inch of the inside of that engine and didn't even come up with a fragment of a snapring..
As I stated...the engine would run great for hours at a time...and then it would just develop an awful hammering knock...
Shut it off and restart it...ran perfect again...didn't even smoke...
It was a warranty....these engines are still built by people...
