When I was composting it was on a large scale.
The pile was just leaves from our cleanup operations. When we turned it we would add some topsoil. We also had a dirt shredder and when we were "making topsoil" part of the mix would be compost. The pile was always several hundred feet long and it was kinda neat to see whole leaves on one end, then walk to the other end and it just looked like dirt.
I don't have any numbers but I would love to know the value of what these piles are worth.
There is quite a bit of shrink from delivery until used (from composting)...but serious $$$$$.
Plus we don't pay a dime for the product. Our only cost is fuel and time plus a little wear and tear on our truck to haul it.
