Junior I live for waterfowl hunting in the fall... Depending on what kind of land you are on will determind alot of what you can do. What we have had the most success with (in the midwest) is grading an area like you are talking about so when can use it as a field as well. We put in a box riser type thing (not sure of the exact name) so we can adjust the water level. Sorta like Chris used on some of the pond damns. We will plant corn and bean in the fields and leave the field dry right until after harvest. Usually I will leave a few rows of corn around the edge of when I am goin to flood. Then we just grab the pump and flood the field right after harvest. How you lay out your damns and stuff will depend alot on how the grade is. Alot of our dams are just as wide as we can run a truck or tractor on. Up here no one messes with us for doing it.
