My personal experience would be that you really don't an HD truck to pull that light of a trailer. I have three fords. A F250 Super duty 5.4(165k miles), F350 and F450 dump 7.3 powerstrokes. I tow 90% of my equipment(Skid Steer and 7k Lb. excavator included) with the F250 and have never had an issue. The F450 could pull a train but what's the point? You also mentioned preferring the v10 motor but I think that goes along the same lines of being overkill for what you'll be doing. My perspective would be to get a 150/1500 since you'd be saving money on the original purchase as well as fuel.
