"Split" means you're running pipe in two directions from the zone valve with each one carrying about half the zone's flow.
You will not get a reliable 40 feet from a PGP unless the nozzles are bigger than standard and the pressure is higher.
You would be better off not settling on any part of the system design until you get the details on a water well. You might be working with lower pressures and closer head spacings.
