No, I am not joking, breathing in great quantities of any foreign substance can hurt you bad.

I breathe up-wind.
Don't breathe inside clouds of dust.
Don't get inside the clouds in the first place, learn how it works, then learn to time it.

Took a while but it's been years since I've had trouble with the dust.
I hold my breathe a lot myself but I still get dust and junk in my nose and once you get that stuff in your lungs it's there forever that's why I ordered one... I hope it's more comfortable than regular mask or I will not like wearing it..
