If you are fine with the hit in difference from what you paid to what you'll get in order to have the machine you want, go for it. It's much more enjoyable to be on something that makes you happy IMO, and worth what it takes sometimes in order to get there.
Just as a referrence, my local dealer will give you exactly half of what he thinks he can get for your machine from a resale when you trade in. He's a very large dealer, one of the biggest in this state and he doesn't deviate from his practice of doing that.
