Trying to balance turf health with customer demands can be challenging. I don't want to be mowing dirt in the summertime which is why I refuse to cut lower than necessary. Had a customer as me to go lower and refused for that reason.
I suppose you can get away with cutting lower in spring but if I am thinking clearly that just gives the weeds a chance to take over. On certain accounts that I know are prone to weeds I actually let the grass reach max height before cutting and it usually results in a mostly weed free lawn by the time it is under control.
