I use a long Rigid brand shovel with fiberglass handle. Had for 4+ yrs and not broke it yet. I've taken to making my own shovels, remove fiberglass or wood & insert heavy duty metal fence type pole. Either drill holes and add bolts to secure handle or get it weld on. Cheap to make & gives me better penetrating weight to dig out or chop thru plant roots & last farther longer than fiberglass or wood.
