The grubs won't die, unfortunately. The will go deeper and winter over. Depending on how long it stays warm and what type of grass you are planting, you may have a little luck getting some to sprout this fall, but odds are better in the spring. I would scalp mow it the last time of the season, aerate, seed, see how well it comes up in the spring and may have to add more in the spring. If the area is REALLY bad, it might be better to just till it all up and reseed.
