You want the sign to be seen at night, as people drive by. Headlights will wash out the lights you put on the sign usually, and you need to wire them in temporarily. I've done my signs with dark background and light colored lettering/logo. Simple, just logo and my contact info, but all in REFLECTIVE VINYL. It beams when the headlights hit it at night, and when I'm done, there's nothing to disconnect. The reflective stuff is more expensive, but cheaper than a light fixture!
