I've done it both ways. I lean towards broadcasting before the aeration.
I'm not a fan of pushing broadcast seed with aeration unless it is for bad area repair and those thin areas are verticut or something to that effect.
Senske pulls this tactic here and I'm so NOT impressed.
There is an aetator that will be released next year that keeps reciprocating up and down and the forward and rearward action is infinitely variable.

Our local land grant university recommends broadcasting 1/2 of the see, then aerating and broadcasting the other 1/2.
Pluggr has a new aerator that is variable speed.
