I've got 12,000+ hours on Case 550 dozers. I've owned E, G, and H models. You won't find a better machine for fine tune grading in tight lots, plus they have very good power to weight ratio and push as good or better than a D3 or 450G. The 4T-390 was a very good motor that Case ran in several machines for a long time. Great visibility all around the machine too. Having switched to a hystat, they are much easier to operate all day, every day...but for how if you're comparing apples to apples, dollar to dollar, a 550 would be my choice hands down over a G series Deere or C series Cat. The price on that machine is fair, if you could get it for $15K it would be a deal. The H models might be out of the price range but have more refinements. G models were probably the most popular, so you might see more around. I would stay under 5K hours. Like anything else, it's how it was taken care of.
