I work in Portland and it's suburbs. I chose "Portland, OR" and then a 20 mile radius.
My goal is to have search visibility, both maps and organic, in as many areas as possible. Even in areas that are lower income you will find people with some money to spend. So- get as many clicks as possible and then optimize you site for the conversion. I am not trying to convert everyone, but just the right people. I get very few leads from people who can't afford what we do. I do get contacted by a lot of people afraid they can't afford us- which I think is a positive.
