The rubber chains should help. They're not as aggressive as some of the steel chains, but they won't scratch the pavement all to hell either. We installed front and rears on a compact tractor that is at a hilly site this winter. The operator said they made a huge difference over the previous year not having them. They're not expensive either. Wouldn't be a bad idea to chain up both sets. Add weight to the gator too. That will also help a lot.
