FB460V question

The carb. used to leak alittle on this motor, and if I had the gas turned off, I always had to pull the gas line off,, and bleed it to get the line full again, and put it back on the carb. Are they just like that? I always thought the carb. had a vent hole clogged up or something. Dosen't seem to be leaking anymore, but was just trying to figure it out.

It might have been dirt in a needle valve for the float that let it stick open a bit and it caused it to leak out.

(oops sorry Eric) I wasn't clear enough. Was just wondering if the gas line always had to "bled" if it ran out of gas. Looks like the line would fill up by itself, after putting more gas in the tank. Maybe a primer bulb would work.
(Thanks far as I know, that's what was wrong with the carb.)

I have never run across a carb that does not have some type of venting system built into to it. As far as air in the line, this should not make any difference. The small fuel line tend to trap air bubbles, normally happens when you run out of fuel. They should clear by themselves over time, it should not affect performance. On larger motor there is either a vacuum operator fuel pump or an electric one. If the unit will not prime itself when trying to start, the vacuum pump style probably needs a new diaphram kit. However the pump will normally still function if you prime it. You can prime it by slightly pressurizing the fuel tank with compressed air. You'll see the tank expand a little, which will indicate enough pressure. If you pressurize the tank to long, you can flood the engine.
