Buying accounts

I am a new business (three months) with 12 accounts and am considering buying 54 accounts from a sole proprietor who does all the work on his own.
The pros are that it would dramatically jump start the business.
The cons are that it would be hard to tell if the accounts will stay with us.
My questions are:
What would I need to know before making this decision?
What would be the average rate per account?
How is this usually paid? Cash? Short term to seller?
How does the TRANSITION of account work?
Thanks, Kurt

Using the search button at top would get you the answers for your questions. I did a search on your topic, buying accounts. Here is a link to some threads from members in the lawn care forum
