Anyone Kayak Fishing
Anyone fishing with a yak? If so what model and any modifications? I am looking into purchasing one for use in small freshwater lakes, but I also plan on taking it to Florida during the winter months to fish in the flats.

I've considered getting a kayak for way too long. It seems like it would be a great upper-body/core workout while communing with nature...I never liked gyms.
I'm not looking to tackle any whitewater...so what would a guy need to spend to get set up?

If you were just looking for a standard kayak I would guess to say 150-300 if you bought used from craigslist, ebay or another avenue to find a used yak. Pretty much new kayaks start out in the 400's and up to 2000 depending on what you buy. It is a good way to exercise.

I use an Hobie Revolution for fresh and salt water fishing. It's stable and very quick with the mirage drive system, but I use the upgraded turbo fins.

Helava kayak set-up you have there. I am looking at a Emotion: Mojo Angler, looks to fit my needs and price point. You have any advice on rigging the yak.

Lots of guys fish skinny water from kayaks down here. I have not yet fished from one, but I would definitly recomend a sea kayak vs a river kayak if you are fishing. They are a lot faster.

I blame my new found addiction to the area you live in. I spent close to two months in Cape Coral and Placida this winter. We fished the Boca Grande pass. Amazing stuff. We yaked flats in that area as well. My wife and I are going to look for a winter place this fall on Pine Island unless prices shoot back up. Good Stuff. Send me a pm if you service SE Cape by Nicholas & Country Club. Cape: Check your links on your website, looks like atleast one is broken Last edited by Flow Control; 03-30-2009 at 08:05 PM. |

poolboy, How does the Revolution paddle? I have a demo set up to try out a revolution and outback. I want to be able to paddle as well as peddle. The idea of hands free fishing/drinking sounds great.

FYI, the rudder engagement changed in the 09 models and apparently uses a non-stainless steel spring. The local service guy at the kak shop told me that they were expecting issues with this new design. Here is forum that I checked out before buying mine last year. http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/community/ |
