jd "push button" deck just falls..

got a jd z520a 54in that has the convenience package on it... and call me crazy but the push button lift has always seemed to lower the deck a little slow - kinda like easing it down. I mowed an acre or two the other day that was a little rough and today I noticed that as soon as I let off the button - BAM! the deck just fell down - no easing. Any ideas? or is this the way it is supposed to be and I just shook something loose the other day?
thx

I have the same mower and that is the way it is suppose to work. It raises it up but just drops when you let off the button. you can just hit the button a few times when u let the deck down so it does not just drop if u want

I just talked to a guy a few days ago about his, and he said his just drops like yours is doing now. Maybe it was jammed up a bit before like you said.

Update....

just thought i would post that i think i got it fixed after taking a couple of minutes under the shade tree over the weekend. there is a spring helping lower the deck that also has a tensioner on it and I just tightened it up a little....now it's not just dropping - shaking the whole mower.
