How much oil? soaked? dripping?
How many hours are on your unit?
Has the unit been used a steep slopes?

The unit may have been tipped on its side?

blowback

I jack up the back of the mower with a winch to sharpen the blades but have not tipped it on its side. Also, I noticed it sometimes backfires.
