That's exactly what I did this year. I pulled it out the beginning of the week, and added another 2 feet to the top of it. Now I'm just trying to decide if I want swinging out barn doors or one solid one that hinges from the top?

solid one that hinges from the top, think of tri axle dump trucks, that's how they do it, that's the best way for a door to go....i will be building a box once i get my own 4x4 dump truck which should be before i have to actually use my leaf loader, which snapped a crank last november about a week or so after i bought it, but the few times i used it, it worked awesome.

Time to put the leaf box on!

First year of needing a box. Do you guys just frame it up like a house. Put a door on top for dumping in xnd a big door on back for unloading? Tips hints suggestions?

it's best to leave the top covered with a mesh type material for venting, especially if you are using a vacuum to load leaves. then all you need to do is have a hole near the top to attach the hose. a door on the back to dump is a must, lots of guys will line the boxes with a tarp or something to facilitate easy removal, just pull on tarp and leaves come out.

I made a frame that I bolt on, keeps the whole box together. A friend of mine had a leaf box with plywood as a roof. He was driving down the road and a sheet of the plywood flew off the roof and took out the cars windshield behind him.........that's when he switched to an all mesh top lol

I've always covered my roof with wood.. Never had one fly off just because i brace it so it doesnt just because i KNOW it can happen.

I was debating on whether to do a barn style or a "Gravel style" (One hinge on the top door) and can to the conclusion that im going to stick to the barn door style. This is because with the single door, We wouldnt be able to throw sticks and stuff into the truck unless we lifted the door and all of that "mess!"

The only down side to the tarp on the roof is the HUGE dust cloud you get when the leaves are really dry.

Also Yes i build mine like a house where everything is connected together. This is so that we can hook it up to a crane and just unbolt the 6 bolts and pull the box straight up.

Does the piece of pipe going from the loader to the dump bed ever get clogged? Do the police ever bust your beans about having it mounted up front like that?
