Billy Goat leaf loader HTR1601v loud popping (PLEASE HELP)
good grief having lots of problems with this unit in this last week, I can post a video later but here's the new problem....
we successfully did 2 jobs this morning we switched our hose from the 6 inch to the 10 inch and it seems to solve the constant clogging problem but now when I start it up engine runs strong for about 20 to 30 seconds then slows down and starts this loud popping was everyone's thoughts on this Posted via Mobile Device |

Check your fuel tank for water or any sign of rust.
Just my experience with several of these--most have sat since the last leaf season with old fuel. I'd suggest a carb cleanup--sounds like a fuel problem. 16 B&S Vanguard? |

Man i have about had it with this carb... I took the carb off tonight and did a full carb rebuild so there should be no more problems with the carb.
if there are anymore problems it will be time for a new gas tank, question, if i buy a new carb will it still flood out the oil if i forget to turn off the gas??? |

Most of the HTR's are mounted on the endgate of a truck and as a result get bounced around alot, resulting in a worn inlet needle. If you are experiencing fuel in the crankcase this could be at least a part of your problem.
When the unit runs for the 20 seconds or so and slows down, is the engine blowing black smoke? If so, it may be overfueling due to a worn inlet needle. Have you checked the oil level in the crankcase? What are the engine numbers? I'm assuming it's a Briggs Vanguard, at least that's how most all of the HTRs were equipped. If the unit was working fine for two jobs and you're not seeing any smoke, it's my guess that the problem is an obstructed carb. |

so I put yet another set of spark plugs in and it seems (for right now) to be working with no backfiring, usually it runs perfect in my yard and decides it's going to embarrass me in the customers yard
