Foliar Fertilizer vs. Soil Applied
I was curious as to what you all seasoned lawn care providers prefer? Foliar or Soil applied?
Also, do any of you use Nutrite, Plant Marvel/Nutriculture, Emerald Isle Solutions/Lebanon Turf, Plant Food Co., Protene, Andersons, Grigg Bros, or Roots? I am beginning to spray instead to granular and there are so many different companies and I am just wondering what you all use. I live in Central Va. with most all cool season TTTF. |

I prefer soil feeding. Even when I am using liquid (its mainly for weed control), and most of the solution goes down to the soil. Too much fert on the leaves--and you get fertilizer burn. Which burn is a whole lot more likely at temps over 85.

I'm using soluble fertilize on St. Augustine and Centipede (Warm Season Turf). However, irrigation is a MUST!!! Watering in prevents burn as Riggs pointed out. The use of soluble and adding the weed herbicides to the mix cuts one application. Also, since mixing the correct amount of Nitrogen and Potassium is different for each of these, the mix is customized for the variety and the particular lawn. Stressed lawns can be spoon fed at a two (2) week interval if needed with other nutrients and iron.
