Changing the Hydro Fluid

Since the mowing season is getting closer, I am beginning to do some maintenance on my mowers before the season starts. I bought 2 gallons of Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w-50 and 2 filters to do a oil change on the Grasshopper 718K transmission. I opened the box where all the oil change stuff was and I discovered that when I ordered filters they had sent me 2 Stens filters. They are a bit shorter than the OEM filters but the part number matches up. This is my first transmission oil change and I am already a tad bit nervous because I cant afford to tear this mower up, but I have never used these aftermarket filters before. Can I go ahead and use them without the fear of tearing my mower up, or should I order some Grasshopper filters.

I havnt changed hydro fluid yet, but the stens ones I buy for engine oil are about 3/4" shorter and I called exmark and they said they will work fine, but that the exmark OEM ones are preferred but they have to say that

The filters will work fine. If you line up 10 different brands of filter they will all vary in length. All you get with an Exmark, Scag or any other manufacture filter is a higher price for a repainted unit from a filter maker. I get my Frams at Walmart right next to the Mobil 1. You have a slightly smaller capacity which has nothing to do with the filtering capability.

Same goes for bearings, belts and seals. Even Napa is cheaper than factory brand.

Sure he will. Until his Murray breaks, he loses interest, his girlfriend wants to go out, Black OPs 3 comes out. Worse yet, he screws something up. What does this have to with oil filters and paying more unnecessarily for a factory name?

Why should you pay more for a fancy landscape companies name because you get what you pay for there is a difference in filters belts bearings I don't understand why people pay good money for a mower then service it with the cheapest crap they can find
