5000 - 5500k LED

Looking for some feed back if anyone has used a 5000k - 5500k LED drop in for moonlighting? These will
be replacing vapor. For the cost of the vapor to LED mod, 12v will be more efficient and hopefully replicate effect.

Would prefer to use the Illumincare MR16 drop in on some current upgrades also.

Honestly, I wouldn't try to replicate the color of Mercury Vapor, it makes me nauseous. I know there's a ton of it in Dallas and that's what people are used to but that doesn't make it right.

I like to be in the 4000k to 4500k range for down lights.

Whats right or wrong?

Clients always right. They want vapor give them vapor. Halogen, give it. 2700k vs 3000k spread, give it. Service once a month,
give it to them. Show, educate and let them decide. T. Boone wants it, what ya gonna say. Kinda surprised at your answer.

Thanks for your reply.

Illumicare 4000k do look nice though.

Hi Jana,
Thanks for the compliment! I might get crucified for suggesting this in a public forum, but IMO to achieve the look of MV, you need more than color temperature, you need hue also. 5500K will get you close, but you would need a blue/green lens, to get the true MV feel. Not offering an opinion on MV itself, I am sure they are as wide and varied as the lamp options themselves!

Thanks,

John Higo

Thanks John!

Nate at Abrisa has sent some uncut samples for us to try in front of some LED drop in's. Had to cut to size but one does seem to look very good. Have also
used the existing mv glass in front of halogen with great results, the lamp does make a difference. GE's CC. A nice subtle moonlight grayscale effect. Using
your 30 degree 3000k on the elevation and the 45 degree 4000k to accent.

Just heard today Vista, on Monday, has entered the MR16 drop in LED market. hmmm...
