40 Year old mower still going strong
My grandfathers shed is somewhat of a time capsule. Now that he has passed away, I maintain his property and it is easier for me to use his old Snapper mower than drag mine over to his house everytime I want to mow. I knew his mower was old but until yesterday I didnt know how old. All I knew was that it starts on the first pull every time and only seems to thrive on neglect. Yesterday while rummaging through his shed looking for an air pump, I found the original Snapper brochure. In 1973 my grandfather purchased the Snapper for just under $580. He still has the original grass catcher and everything works just the way it should.

Here is a picture that was taken just a few months ago. The colors arent quite as vibrant as they once were. My son love it though.

Those snapper rear engine rider's are some of the best mower's there are. Not much has changed on those thing's. I'm not surprised to see that machine.

That was my first rider mower back in '74. Paid $250 for it used. 'Cause I hated mowing my lawn. I took on another lawn to help pay for the mower. Gawd! That 30" blade would mow down a garden, cornstalks and all. Are they still legal? I think that blade tip speed was breaking the sound barrier! |

Solid frames and bullet proof Briggs, back when they cared about quality. More than a few LCO's got their start on those. A few guys still use them for older city properties that have those infernal 30" gates that give you no option other than a push mower. That's great you can still share memories of your grandpa. I feel the same when I visit my dad and use his old tools in the garage I grew up in.

Awesome! There is absolutely nothing like hanging out in an old shed/barn/or garage.... just looking at things and investigating while the rain patters off the roof... They really are time capsules..
