Marketing for Landscape Supply Centers

So, now that spring is here (for most people anyway), what new things are those of you with retail supply centers doing for marketing and advertising this year?

We really concentrated on in-house marketing this winter. Things like in-house videos, more displays, seminars for the DIYers, that sort of thing. We did a lot of SEO and prep for social media as well, like pre-writing blog posts, e-mail newsletters and hunting down tips and tricks for our facebook and twitter feeds.

Anyone else?

Paul

I've always struggled with marketing for my retail. Its very expensive and hard to pinpoint what works. I've been running a repetitive radio ad on a AM talk radio station thats reasonable. Also been working on social web media with giveaways, etc. Do you find you get much response with the newsletters?

Perhaps there is an opportunity. Make a deal with a local lawn care company that is mailing out 5000 brochures in your area. Arrange to include a coupon or special offer that would be delivered to 5000 homes. Something that does not compete with his lawn care proposal. Say a free flower in a pot with any purchase of $5 or more. Good traffic builder--and most people will buy more than the minimum--if your store is well laid-out and your sales staff alert.
