Sod cutter rental + labor + disposal. Tree roots? Irrigation? Tight spots where removal with spade?

You may want to get a licensed applicator to kill it with Roundup first. Removal becomes easier. Use a sod-cutting machine. If not killed then try to sell the sod. ("Utility grade").
Sod is heavy--no fun to load it.

Pitchfork works better than spade... picking up a sod cutter from a Rental House may be more time consuming and more expensive than its worth... a small area like that can be simply done without running equipment around the lawn for a half hour, then spending another hour on the road and waiting in line... a couple of hours with a fork and no running around... I hate running around , wasting gas, spending money after dealing with people all in my way,, etc., etc...

Like Riggle suggestted, save the sod if it is good for anything and give it to clients that have trouble spots and barespots, instead of fighting with seed this time of the year...

Now that I know that clay's texture(platelets) has nothing to do with water infiltration, percolation, or drainage
,,, I wonder what does...
