Z TRAK 930M - Kawi or Kolher EFI

Found good deals on 2013 930M's. The kohler EFI is $400 more than the Kawi. Is it worth it? Also the Kawi machine has an iso seat. I will be mainly cutting 3 acres with it which is relatively flat. Other than that a few other small accounts.

That 400 will be the cost of a tune up and head work on the kawi at 300 hrs. Buy Kohler

I have read some posts saying that the efi kohler is noticeably underpowered compared to the Kawi. Anyone have experience with these two choices? Dealer sent me an email tonight saying that he can knock another 200 off the efi with a rebate which would bring it to $8200

The 24.6 Kohler is known on this site to be underpowered compared to the 25.5 Kawi, but I guess it depends on the deck size and type, ie; MOD or non MOD deck. Also, which Kohler EFI? They offer two choices on the 930M, the 24.6 on up to 54" decks, and the 25.5 on the 60" decks. ProStreetCamaro has the 25.3 on his Gravely 460 and seems to be liking it pretty well so far. He thought it was a tad underpowered at first, but says it seems to be gaining as it breaks in better.

I like Kawi's and don't care for Kohlers anymore, but for that small a difference in price, it would probably be the smart choice as long as the power you want and/or need is there. demo first, pay second. If that dealer won't do it, find one that will. That's just too much money to chunk down without getting to test on your property. I own a Z950 w/60" MOD deck and I can tell you that if you want the MOD deck, go with the Kawi. You'll be glad for the added power in heavy grass or thick leaves vs the Kohlers. For the std Pro deck I doubt it matters that much.

Then I think the 25.3 Kohler would be plenty of engine. I've just had bad luck with my last couple Kohlers which has left me soured on them, but I do like the hydraulic valve lifters they have.

The EFI makes the engine run sooooo smooth and it saves quite a bit of fuel compared to a carb engine. Hot out, cold out, it doesn't matter. Just hit the key and it starts right up and runs smooth as silk. I would go with the EFI if it were me (I have that engine on my 460). BTW at 50 degrees or above run straight 30wt oil. It really likes the 30wt. I was having some puffs of start up smoke with 10W30 but it completely went away with the 30wt. My engine was also still breaking in at the time so that could have played a role in the start up smoke.

I was all set to buy the efi last week and the dealer told me his commercial guys dont like them because of the power difference compared to the kawi. (he sold 60+ 930m's this year - 90% kaw.) I think if I was running a bagger I would definitely get the kawi but since Im running the regular deck and no bagger the efi should be just fine. After running both machines all over the dealerships land I cant notice any power difference. The EFI is a bit quieter and feels much more refined. I guess I just need positive assurance I'm making the right decision.
